The seniors on the Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats varsity football team had never won a game on a senior night in their years on the team. It seems only fitting that on their senior night, they got it done.

The Bobcats improved to 7-2 on the year, a school record for wins in a season, with a heart-pounding 33-27 overtime win over Whitefield Academy. The Wolfpack gave Mercy a game and the two teams gave the fans in the stands enough excitement to keep them warm as the game headed to an extra period.

Mercy scored first after Courage Jacobs intercepted a pass and Greg Hadley ran six yards for a touchdown. With just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Mercy nearly picked off another pass but the bounce landed right in a nearby Whitefield receiver’s hands. In the second quarter, the Wolfpack went on a nine minute drive and capped it off with a one yard touchdown run. They led at the half 14-7.
