Baseball Improves to 3-0
February 26th, 2013
The Mercy baseball team traveled to New Manchester to take on the Jaguars Monday afternoon. The temperature was cold and the wind was fierce, but the boys battled the elements to secure a victory. Christian Griffith made his debut on the hill and pitched 5 1/3 solid innings, allowing only 2 unearned runs. Austin Loper recorded the save. Offensively, Mercy went up 2-0 in the first inning on a Chris Wesley single and then made it 3-1 on Justin Larkin's sacrifice fly in the 2nd. The score would not change until an RBI double by Kevin Walker in the 6th. Mercy would add two more runs in the sixth and another in the final frame on a Matt Frank single.
Defensively, the Bobcats were solid, highlighted by the inning ending double play by Aaron Ushery, Loper and Frank in the 4th inning when the Jags were threatening to score. Just one inning before, Mercy escaped danger as well when Kenny Smith gunned out a runner at home from left field to end the inning.
Mercy will host Mt. Zion Thursday at 4:00.
