Baseball Earns 12th Win to end Season

April 28th, 2012

The Bobcats traveled to Temple Friday night to finish the regular season and they did it in style, claiming a convincing 4-2 victory over the Tigers.  Mercy jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a successful "delayed steal" by Senior John Keuler which turned into a 2-base error as well to plate the first run of the game.

Temple tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.  Mercy promptly regained the lead on a an RBI single by Senior Kip Darden, bringing home Matt Frank who singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Wesley.  Temple would eventually notch the game at two runs apiece until the fifth inning when the Bobcats scored two runs on two hits by Keegan Jordan and Justin Larkin (RBI double).

The 4-2 lead was all pitchers Thomas Smilie and Austin Loper would need to seal the victory.  Smilie scattered 4 hits over 5 and 2/3 innings and Loper was perfect in relief, retiring all 4 batters he faced to earn the save.   The win pulled Mercy's overall season record to 12-12, a winning season for our departing seniors who we will greatly miss - John Keuler, Kip Darden, Will Dunphy, and Gerardo Vargas. Congratulations Bobcats!
