Lady Bobcat Tennis Finishes 3rd in Region

April 13th, 2011

The Lady Bobcats travelled to South Fulton Tennis Center to compete in the Region 9-A Tournament today.  Whitefield, ranked first in the region, was their first opponent.  The matches were close and went back and forth throughout the morning.  Mercy's #1 singles player Brandi Nelson won her match in straight sets. Unfortunately, Whitefield took both doubles matches and the #3 singles match in straight sets before #2 singles could finish so Whitefield won 3-1.

However, the girls had the opportunity to play for 3rd or 4th place in the afternoon. Their opponent was Paideia - a team they had lost to in the regular season. However, the tables turned in this match as Brandi Nelson, Jordan Hameen, and the doubles duo of Jenny Bui and Lauren Jones won their matches in straight sets to give Mercy the victory, 3-1 and 3rd place in the Region.

The Lady Bobcats have a match tomorrow to give them shot at advancing in the State Tournament. They will play Walker, ranked 4th in Region 6, at 3:30 PM at OLM in the preliminary round of the State Tournament. If the Bobcats win, they will play in the 1st round of the State Tournament for the first time in 7 years.
