Girls Tennis Advances to State Tournament!

April 18th, 2011

At the start of the 2011 season, the Lady Bobcat tennis team had one goal in mind. make it into the state tournament.
They wanted to accomplish this feat which no Mercy tennis team had ever achieved...until now.

Last Thursday, the Mercy girls tennis team made school history by defeating Walker, a school with a talented team and highly decorated tennis program which earned state tennis titles for girls and boys within the last few years.

Singles players Brandi Nelson and Tayler Murray won their matches in straight sets while the two doubles teams struggled to get anything going, dropping their two matches in straight sets. Again, it came down to one match to either send the girls into the tournament or to end the season.  #3 Singles player Jordan Hameen pulled out a great victory in straight sets to give Mercy the overall match victory 3-2.

The last time Mercy had a team close to making the tournament was back in 2005. However, this is the first time that a Mercy tennis team has entered the State Tournament Bracket.

The Lady Bobcats will face George Walton Academy on Tuesday, April 19th in the first round of the tournament.
