Bobcat Tennis Competes at Region

April 12th, 2011

Monday marked the beginning of the Region 9-A Tennis Tournament. Both Mercy girls and boys teams competed in first round matches with the girls at home and the boys away.

The #7 seeded Mercy boys team received a tough first round draw playing #2 ranked Eagles Landing Christian Academy. ELCA was dominant yesterday, taking all 5 matches.  Though they didn't advance in the tournament, the Mercy boys had a good season and will be returning all but one player next year.

The #4 seeded girls team drew First Presbyterian in their first round match at home.  It was back and forth with Mercy taking 2 matches and First Presbyterian taking 2 matches.  It came down to one last match - the #2 doubles line.  The Mercy team of Bui and Jones played terrific tennis to win 6-1, 6-1 giving the Mercy girls team the go-ahead point to take the match.

Congratulations to Brandi Nelson, Jordan Hameen, Jenny Bui, and Lauren Jones for winning their matches and helping Mercy advance in the region tournament.

Region play continues tomorrow at South Fulton Tennis Center in Fairburn. The girls semifinal match will be against Whitefield at 9 AM.  Go Lady Bobcats!
