Guidance
WHAT:
The guidance counselor is an ear to listen. Everyone needs someone to talk to. Many students find it difficult to speak to their parents for fear of being fussed at or punished. They have difficulty speaking to friends at times for fear of ridicule, rumors or reputations. Having the counselor as a safe, informative and positive source for questions and answers is a wonderful alternative to not talking at all. It is the mission of the counselor however to ultimately help the student become self reliant, while simultaneously understanding and appreciating the value of supportive parents/guardians. The guidance counselor is also the person students may come to who will function as a mediator between the teacher and student. Students perform at their best when they have a strong and solid rapport with their teachers. Counselors know this and work diligently to keep the lines of communication open between the two parties.
WHERE:
Mercy's guidance counselor, Musanna Hoskins, has an office located in the main hallway past the main office on the left. Students have access to the counselor’s office from the main entry hallway.
WHEN:
Students are able to visit the guidance department either during the lunch/study hall hour or after school until 4 pm. In some instances, students will see the counselor during class time; this is usually reserved for emergency cases needing immediate intervention.
