Mercy Dominates Home Opener, Looks Ahead to Week Two

Our Lady of Mercy's players, students and coaches were hoping to start off new head Coach Mike Earwood's tenure with a bang. On Saturday, speedy sophomore slotback Rashad Fant did just that. On the opening play from scrimmage, Earwood dialed up a buck sweep. Quarterback Lance McGuffie handed the ball off, the line held their blocks and Fant did the rest, zipping 91 yards for the touchdown.
"[Fant] had a great game," Earwood said. "180 rushing yards on five attempts is a pretty good debut. All in all, it was a very postive night for us. I wanted to see our kids play hard and that is what I saw."
