Girls Cross Country Finishes 3rd in Region

October 26th, 2012

Our Lady of Mercy’s Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed in their Regional Meet yesterday at home. Leah Banks, medaled, finishing 10th overall. The Girls Cross Country team was led by sophomore Leah Banks, who was followed closely by senior Jade Grier who ran tough despite an injury. The Girls team finished in 3rd place by only one point, and qualified for the Georgia State Cross Country Championships next weekend!

Despite their best efforts, the boys team unfortunately, missed qualifying by one spot, coming in 5th place. Junior, John Raville finished 2nd overall in the Varsity race, qualifying for the State Meet as an individual.

From Cross Country Coach Bernadette O'Neill: “Our girls team focused intensely for this race, and ran tough which was exactly what we needed from them to get 3rd place! This is a very strong girls team, and each girl played a part in qualifying for the state meet. We would not have been able to finish where we did without the solid effort put forth by all of our girls through the entirety of the race.  I am very proud of this team’s hard work, and clear focus yesterday!”
