Mercy Baseball Wins Key Region Game

April 18th, 2012

The Bobcats have won their last 4 home games and improve to 10-10 on the year.  They currently stand in 4th place in Region9A.

Tuesday afternoon, the rains held off just long enough to allow Mercy's baseball team to take care of business against the visiting Strong Rock Patriots, 10-3.  Austin Loper pitched six innings without giving up an earned run and Kip Darden came in to finish things off in the seventh inning.  Defensively, Mercy committed a couple of errors to allow the Patriots to take an early lead at 2-1 in the top of the second inning.  But the bottom of the 2nd was classic baseball as the Bobcats started with two hits, followed by a sacrifice bunt, and a groundout RBI by Will Dunphy to notch the game at 2 apiece.

From then on, it was all Mercy as they scored in each of their last 4 innings.  Leading hitters were Will Dunphy 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's, Kip Darden 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's, and Chris Wesley who was 3 for 4 with an RBI.  Justin Larkin added 2 hits and an RBI, and John Keuler had two hits and scored 3 runs.

Next up - Whitefield Friday 5pm at home.
